BERLIN, July 7, 2026 – Today, ZULA Kids announces the release of the new picture book, „Fittis musikalische Reise“ (English: Fitti’s Musical Journey). Designed for children ages five to eight, the story provides a gentle exploration of curiosity, cultural identity, and the courage to pursue one’s passion.
In „Fittis musikalische Reise,“ Fitti dreams of finding the perfect musical instrument, but none of the ones at music school feel quite right. When her grandfather shares the story of his childhood in Eritrea and introduces her to the traditional Krar, Fitti discovers the profound power of connecting with her heritage. The narrative serves as a vital resource for caregivers and educators, offering a meaningful way to discuss cultural diversity, patience, and the journey of finding one’s unique voice. The book also includes educational sections on instruments from around the world.
„With this story, I want to encourage children to explore their heritage and unique life experiences with pride,“ says Rahua Mesghina, the book’s author. „The fact that Fitti discovers her love for music through a traditional instrument that was once reserved for men reflects my commitment to rewriting narratives and strengthening female empowerment through storytelling.“
The narrative is written by sociologist and author Rahua Mesghina. The expressive illustrations, blending watercolor techniques with traditional Chinese Hui ink, were created by illustrator C. Li-Li Yi. This release is part of the publisher’s 12 new titles created during the annual Book-A-Thon, a mentoring initiative dedicated to providing a platform for creators from underrepresented communities and supporting them in bringing their creativity into the world.
