On September 19, ZULA hosted the children’s literature festival “Let me tell you about my world” at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. More than 150 visitors joined us throughout the day and experienced children’s literature in different forms – from picture book cinema, storytelling, street art, and comics to beatboxing and music.
At the heart of the festival were, of course, diverse stories and the different ways in which they can be told and explored.
Children had the opportunity to get creative with the Storytelling Coat with 100 Secret Pockets by Sofia Burchardi and Claudia Frickemeier, street art with Magdalena Wiegner, and comics with Cannaday Chapman. Our pop-up library also offered books to discover throughout the day.
The picture book cinema began with “So sind wir”, followed by a meet & greet with Josephine Apraku. In the afternoon, “Amma kann nicht einschlafen” and “Teryam, ich find dich” were presented, followed by a meet & greet with Regina Feldmann and Yama Tessa Hart.
Music and performance were also part of the festival: Lindiwe Suttle Müller-Westernhagen presented a musical storytime, Marvelin brought beatboxing to HKW, and Julie Pascale closed the program with a concert.
We were very happy to see so many children and families join us at HKW. A big thank you to all the authors, illustrators, and artists who contributed to the program, to Haus der Kulturen der Welt for the wonderful collaboration, and to everyone who joined us. It was a great event.
