Last weekend, ZULA joined the Summer Market of the African Food Festival Berlin for a great weekend of books, conversations and community.
From the moment we set up our table, there was a steady stream of visitors stopping by to browse, chat and discover our books. The response was incredible, and we had the chance to meet so many lovely people who immediately connected with the stories we publish.
The sense of community around the festival was impressive. The atmosphere throughout the weekend was open, lively and welcoming. It was a space where our books felt completely at home, surrounded by people who were interested in stories that reflect different experiences, identities and perspectives. Many conversations started around representation, identity and the simple question of finding stories in which more children can recognise themselves.
That is one of the things we value most about being at events in person. They give us the opportunity to meet readers face to face. A website can show a cover and explain what a book is about for readers to get an impression, but it is different to see which book a child reaches for first, which illustrations make someone stop, and which story leads to a longer conversation.
Thank you to everyone who came by the ZULA stand, browsed the books, shared a thought or simply stopped for a chat. And thank you to the African Food Festival Berlin for creating such a warm space for community, culture and exchange.
