I want to inspire people to believe in themselves—not through toxic positivity that claims “you can achieve anything” while ignoring real barriers like discrimination and racism. But I also refuse to accept that we internalize oppression so deeply that we stop believing in our own potential. My message to younger generations is simple: Believe in yourself. That’s why I wrote Es ist Platz für mich da (“There’s Room for Me”, 2022). I wanted to nourish children—especially BIPoC—with affirmations from the start. Representation is just as vital. My books, including those created with ZULA, aim to combine both: affirmation and representation, to uplift and empower. At the heart of it all is my own child—my biggest motivation and reminder of why this work matters.
